The North Carolina Property Tax Commission

The North Carolina Property Tax Commission created by the state government out of Raleigh, North Carolina consists of five members, according to the Department of Revenue, North Carolina website. Of the members of the Commission, “…three are appointed by the Governor and two are appointed by the General Assembly. The main objective of the Commission is to hear and render decisions based on property tax issues between the county or municipality and the taxpayer. The hearing is very similar to a trial court without a jury.” The commission is a quasi-judicial body at the appellate level, where individuals or companies may appeal when disputing the property tax value set by the county of the property in question. A working attorney may be charged by the commission to rule on evidentiary issues, much as a judge would.

The Property Tax Commission is under the jurisdiction of the North Carolina Department of Revenue, which operates under a set of strict values and limitations. The mission statement of the Department Of Revenue of North Carolina, available on the dornc website, is clear:   ”To administer the tax laws and collect the taxes due the State in an impartial, uniform and efficient manner.”   The NCDOR holds forth its desire to be easy to do business with, compassionate and firm but fair. This has been the societies mission since it was founded by five students at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1776.

For students at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina being elected as a new member to the Phi Beta Kappa chapter is a great honor. As one of only 283 universities and colleges in the country to have a chapter of the prestigious academic society, being a member of the Phi Beta Kappa chapter at Davidson College is a testament to the academic and personal achievement of the students. Since the chapter was founded in 1923, there has only been a total of 2,810 students elected to be members.

To be considered for membership to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most esteemed academic honor society in the country, students must maintain a solid academic standing at the college and be of good character. During her senior year at Davidson College, Julia was elected to membership based on her 3.7 GPA and graduated cum laude and as a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Julia Leigh Sitton gave birth to a beautiful daughter in 1993. Together the two have traveled all around the world together. Exploring various areas of enjoys the sights that the world provides. Sitton’s daughter currently resides in Spain; there she is completing her studies and will be teaching English aft completion of her classes. Between those two times, Julia Leigh Sitton is excited to try out a new journey with her daughter, the Inca Trail.

Previously, Sitton and her daughter have traveled Venice, Rome, Croatia, and Barcelona. However, this trip will take them to the Andes Mountains of South America. The trail is a very popular one amongst the active and those who often trek. That is why the Inca Trail is limited to the amount of trekkers who can travel on it during the season. For this reason, Julia Leigh Sitton has planned well ahead of time for her and her daughter’s thrilling adventure. As the day for their trip comes closer, which is this upcoming summer, Julia Leigh Sitton and her daughter look forward to the trip.
